The Snails

Project
I was collaborating in the construction of this earthed-sack building.
Hearthed-sacks technique uses long sacks, commonly used for agricultural purposes, filled with hearth and then rammed for compaction. Laid in layers the sacks create a false vault.
It is essential to frequently check the distance to the centre to build an almost perfect circle.
The building system is very time-consuming, there are a few tens of tonnes of earth in that building, but the results are magnificent.
The use of buttresses is a must because the forces acting on the walls are huge.
The name of the project is "Els Cargolins", the Snails.
